Review for Alison's Journey

"Alison is preparing herself to her husband’s return. Which means she’s cleaning the house, making sure everything is cleaner than clean. No cat’s hair on the sofa, because that way he would notice that one of the cats had been in the sofa. Not a speck of dust in the house. Each item exactly where he wants it to be… Everything the way he wants it.

Alison is doing this all in an obsessive way because she is trying to avoid that he will find something that doesn’t please him when he comes home. But most of all she’s trying to avoid that he will beat her up. “He” is Eric, Alison’s husband. Her mean, abusive husband, who has changed so much ever since they got married.

Many things in Eric’ s life are perfect: a perfect house, a perfect job… He expects Alison to be perfect as well, which of course is impossible. But Eric is violent, and he always seems to find a reason to hurt Alison physically.

At first Alison is full of doubts as she tries to be the sort of woman Eric wants. Until she realizes that such a woman just doesn’t exist. After been hurt by Eric once again Alison has enough of it and decides to leave. She takes some clothes, her car and her 2 cats and flees from her house, her husband and her old life.

Alison has to start a whole new life and she does it. She’s an example for all women who are in her situation. I like Alison because she’s someone who shows that no one should accept men who are abusive. Alison fights for herself! Amey S. Tippett has written Alison’s Journey in a heart-touching way. You can’t read it without starting to love Alison, and wishing she finds her way in her new life."
